Do Pakistani passport holders in the UAE need a UK visa?

Yes, every time. Appendix Visitor: Visa national list states that a person who meets its criteria "needs entry clearance (a visa) in advance of travel to the UK for any purpose", and Pakistan is entry 80 on that list.

Your UAE residence visa does not change this. The UAE itself is not on the visa national list, but the rule follows the passport you hold, not the country you live in.

What the residence visa does change is where you apply and how your case reads. You can file from the UAE, and a stable job and long residence here are exactly the kind of evidence a UK caseworker wants to see.

Can you apply for a UK visa from Dubai on a Pakistani passport?

Yes, you apply online and then attend a UK visa application centre in the UAE. The gov.uk supporting documents guide asks for "confirmation of legal residence, if you are not a national of the country in which you are applying", which is how the system expects expatriates to apply from where they live.

The British Embassy Dubai lists the UK VFS centre at Wafi Mall, 3rd Floor, Falcon, Phase 2, Umm Hurair 2. The Abu Dhabi centre is at Level B2, The Mall, World Trade Centre, Khalifa Bin Zayed The 1st Street.

VisaWadi handles United Kingdom visa applications for UAE residents from document review through to the decision, including the online form and the VFS booking. Pakistani applicants make up a large share of the UK files we prepare, so we know which documents carry weight for this profile.

How much does a UK visitor visa cost for Pakistani nationals?

The Home Office fee is the same for every nationality. A Standard Visitor visa costs £135 for up to 6 months, and the fee is paid online in the currency the application system shows you at checkout.

If you fly to the UK often, gov.uk lists long-term Standard Visitor visas at £506 for 2 years, £903 for 5 years and £1,128 for 10 years. Each visit is still capped at six months, and for a first application many Pakistani applicants do better applying for the six month visa and building a travel record.

Faster decisions cost extra. Priority service is £500 on top of the fee and super priority is £1,000, and we cover whether either is sensible in our post on the UK visa priority service from the UAE.

What documents do Pakistani applicants in the UAE need?

The list is the same as for any visitor, but a Pakistani file gets read for ties and funds more carefully than most, so each document has to do its job. Start with a passport valid for the whole of your stay in the UK and your UAE residence visa or Emirates ID.

For your job, gov.uk asks for "a letter from your employer on company headed paper, detailing your role, salary and length of employment". Add your labour contract if your salary is paid partly in allowances, so the figures on the letter match the bank statements.

For money, the guide wants "bank statements which detail the origin of the funds held". Statements from a UAE bank showing your salary landing each month are far stronger than a large lump sum that appeared last week, and our guide to UK Standard Visitor visa financial requirements goes into the detail.

Travel history matters. Gov.uk lists "copies of previous passports showing evidence of travel to other countries", so include old Pakistani passports with Schengen, US, Canadian or GCC stamps and visas.

Two more points catch people out. Any document in Urdu, such as a nikah nama or property paper from Pakistan, must have a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office, and the same guide says not to submit flight bookings unless you are transiting, so do not buy a ticket for the file.

How long does a UK visa take from the UAE for Pakistani citizens?

Plan for three weeks after your biometrics. Gov.uk's visa decision waiting times page gives 3 weeks for Standard Visitor applications and states that the clock starts when you attend your appointment at the visa application centre to give fingerprints and a photograph.

The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel, so a trip for a December wedding should be filed in September. Appointment slots in Dubai fill up ahead of the summer and winter school holidays, which is when Pakistani families in the UAE tend to travel.

At the appointment you prove your identity with your passport and have your fingerprints and a photo taken, and you get the passport back the same day. The decision arrives by email, and our walkthrough of the UK visa biometrics appointment in Dubai covers what to bring.

One thing you do not need for a visit is a TB test. Gov.uk only requires one if you are coming to the UK for 6 months or more, which a visitor visa does not allow.

Does a UAE residence visa help a Pakistani UK visa application?

Yes, and it is the reason applying from the UAE is easier than applying from Pakistan for the same person. The genuine visitor test in Appendix V: Visitor asks whether you will leave the UK at the end of the visit and whether you can fund all reasonable costs, and a salaried job in Dubai answers both.

The residence visa also shows that you already live lawfully outside Pakistan and return there only for holidays. Caseworkers look at your ties to where you actually live, so an employment letter and a tenancy contract in the UAE weigh more than a property deed in Lahore.

The weak spot is probation and short tenure. If you moved to the UAE within the last few months, your file has little history here and no travel record from your new base, so expect closer scrutiny and consider waiting until you have six months of UAE salary credits.

Why do Pakistani applicants in the UAE get refused UK visas?

The same handful of reasons come up again and again, and all of them are avoidable. Each maps to a line in the genuine visitor requirement.

  • Unexplained funds. A deposit far larger than your salary, with no letter explaining where it came from, fails the origin of funds test and suggests borrowed money.
  • Cost of the trip out of proportion to income. A three week stay in London with hotel costs that exceed two months of your UAE salary raises the question of whether you will really return.
  • Thin ties to the UAE. New job, no tenancy in your name, family already in the UK or Pakistan. The caseworker asks what pulls you back to Dubai.
  • A sponsor who cannot show support. Under V 4.3 a third party can pay only if they have a genuine relationship with you and can support you for the whole stay, so a vague invitation from a cousin without their own financial evidence hurts rather than helps. See what a UK visitor visa sponsorship letter must include.
  • Inconsistent answers. Dates on the form that do not match the employer letter, or an income figure that differs from the statements. Small mismatches read as dishonesty.
  • Documents over a year old or untranslated. Gov.uk notes that documents dated more than a year before the application are less useful, and an untranslated Urdu document is treated as if it were not there.

If you have already been refused, read our guide to UK visa refusal reasons for UAE residents and how to reapply before filing again. A second application that repeats the first file will get the same answer.

Yes. The genuine visitor test asks whether you will leave the UK and can fund the trip, and a salaried job with regular UAE bank credits answers both. Applicants who arrived in the UAE recently have little history here, so waiting for six months of salary statements makes the file stronger.
No to both. Gov.uk lists flight bookings under documents you should not submit unless you are transiting, so do not buy a ticket for the file. A TB test is only required when you are coming to the UK for six months or more, which a Standard Visitor visa does not permit.
