UK Visa Biometrics Appointment in Dubai: What Actually Happens

A UK visa biometrics appointment in Dubai is a short, routine visit to the VFS Global centre in Wafi Mall where staff check your passport, scan your fingerprints and take a photo. You get your passport back the same day, and the UK's 3 week decision clock starts the moment you attend. Nothing about your eligibility is decided in that room.

Where do you give UK visa biometrics in Dubai?

You give them at the UK VFS Visa Application Centre on the 3rd floor of Wafi Mall in Umm Hurair 2, listed by the British Embassy Dubai. Residents in the capital can use the Abu Dhabi centre at the World Trade Centre Mall instead. Either centre works for a Sharjah or Ajman resident; pick whichever is easier to reach.

You cannot walk in. GOV.UK is clear that you must apply for your visa before you can make an appointment, so the online form and the £135 fee come first and the booking link appears at the end of that process. If you skip choosing a centre, one is assigned for you.

Book as soon as the form is paid. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel, so start the form early and take the first free slot that suits you.

What actually happens at the VFS appointment?

Four things happen, in this order: identity check, document handover, fingerprints, then the photo. GOV.UK sets out the three tasks for the visit as proving your identity with your passport, having your fingerprints and a photo (biometric information) taken, and providing the documents that show you qualify. Staff are not caseworkers and will not comment on your chances.

Fingerprints can fail to enrol. Home Office guidance lists temporary hand decorations, such as henna, along with blisters, cuts or minor burns, as reasons enrolment can fail, so keep hands plain for a week before you attend. For the photo, the same guidance requires eyes visible without glare and no head covering unless it is for religious or medical reasons.

Children follow slightly different rules. Children under 16 must attend with an adult over 18, and children under 5 attend for a photograph only and do not give fingerprints. Bring the accompanying adult's photo ID.

What should you bring to the appointment?

Bring your passport, your appointment confirmation and any documents you did not upload. GOV.UK says you get your passport or travel document back on the same day, though the centre may keep some other documents while the application is processed. Copies of anything you cannot afford to lose are sensible.

The document list is the same one you saw when you applied: bank statements, employment letter, UAE residence visa, accommodation and travel plans.
