UK Visa Priority Service from the UAE: Is It Worth Paying For?
Pay for UK priority only if you travel within four weeks and your documents are in order. Priority costs £500 on top of the £135 visitor visa fee and targets a decision in 5 working days, while super priority costs £1,000 for a decision by the next working day. Neither fee is refunded if the visa is refused or the decision runs late.

Paying for the UK priority service is worth it if your travel date is under four weeks away and your file is clean. The priority service adds £500 to your Standard Visitor visa application and brings the decision target down from 3 weeks to 5 working days, according to GOV.UK. If you can apply six or more weeks before you fly, the standard route is the better use of your money.

What you need
The priority fee speeds up the queue, not the checks. The file itself has to meet the same standard as any other visitor application, per the GOV.UK guide to supporting documents.
- A passport valid for the whole of your stay in the UK
- UAE residence visa page and Emirates ID, showing your status in the country you are applying from
- Bank statements that show the origin of the funds you will use for the trip
- A letter from your employer on company headed paper stating your role, salary and length of employment
- Evidence of your circumstances at home, such as employment, study or property, that shows you will leave the UK at the end of the visit
- Details of where you will stay and your planned travel dates, as asked in the online form
- A full, independently verifiable translation of any document not in English or Welsh
- Your online application confirmation and the VFS Global appointment booking

What is the UK visa priority service and how is it different from super priority?
Priority and super priority are two paid upgrades to the same application, and the only thing you buy is a faster decision target. The GOV.UK page on faster decisions from outside the UK puts priority at £500 for a decision within 5 working days, and super priority at £1,000 for a decision by the end of the next working day after a weekday appointment.
If your biometrics appointment falls on a weekend or a bank holiday, the super priority target moves to 2 working days after the appointment. The clock starts at the appointment, not at the moment you pay, so a Thursday super priority appointment and a Saturday one land on different days.
Both services are sold in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The British Embassy confirmed in a 2016 GOV.UK announcement that the priority and super priority services are available at the UK application centres in both cities, alongside a Platinum Lounge that is Dubai only.
How long does a standard UK visitor visa take from Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
The standard target is 3 weeks, counted from the point you have applied online, given your biometrics and provided your documents, according to GOV.UK's processing times page. That 3 week figure is a target, not a guarantee, and the same page lists reasons a case can run over.
The listed reasons include information in the application that is not accurate or needs further consideration, a request for further evidence such as proof of funds, checks on supporting documents, an interview, or a spike in demand. None of those go away when you pay for priority. They are exactly the situations where the paid target is missed and the fee is kept.
So the real question is how much buffer you have. You can apply up to 3 months before you travel, and a UAE resident who applies at the front of that window has more than enough room for the standard service.
How much does priority cost on top of the UK visa fee?
Priority takes a £135 short term visitor visa to £635 per person, and super priority takes it to £1,135 per person. The base fee comes from the Standard Visitor visa application page and the £500 and £1,000 add-ons from the faster decision page.
The add-on is charged per applicant, including children. GOV.UK states that for each family member applying with you, you pay an additional £500 for priority or £1,000 for super priority, and that every family member will need to pay for a faster decision. A family of four on priority is paying £2,000 in upgrade fees before the visa fees themselves.
The Home Office lists the fees in pounds sterling. You pay online in dirhams at the exchange rate applied on the day, so budget a little above the straight conversion. Longer multi-entry visitor visas, at £506 for 2 years, £903 for 5 years and £1,128 for 10 years, carry the same fixed priority add-on.
Is the priority service worth it for a UAE resident?
It is worth it in three situations: your flight is less than four weeks away, you cannot be without your passport for three weeks, or you are travelling for a fixed date event such as a graduation, a wedding or a business meeting. In each case the £500 is buying you certainty on timing that the standard route cannot give.
It is not worth it if you are applying with two or more months in hand, or if your file has a known weak point. A weak file on priority does not get a friendlier decision; it gets the same scrutiny in a shorter window, and if the caseworker needs to ask for more evidence, the priority target is missed and the fee is not returned.
Super priority is a different calculation again. At £1,000 per person it makes sense for a last minute business trip or an emergency family visit, and rarely for a holiday. If you are choosing between super priority and moving the flight by a week, moving the flight is often cheaper.
Nationality changes the answer too. Applicants from countries whose files tend to attract additional verification are more exposed to the target being missed, because the delay comes from the checks rather than the queue. If you are unsure where your passport sits, a free consultation through VisaWadi's United Kingdom visa service is the quickest way to find out before you spend £500.
How do you add priority to a UK visa application from the UAE?
You select and pay for the priority or super priority service inside the online application, before you book your biometrics appointment. GOV.UK's faster decision guidance ties the decision target to the identity appointment, so the upgrade has to be in place by then.
Once paid, you attend your appointment at the VFS Global UK visa application centre in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, give your fingerprints and photo, and hand in or upload your documents. From that point the 5 working day or next working day countdown runs.
Book the earliest appointment you can find. Priority speeds up the decision, not the appointment, and a two week wait for a biometrics slot wipes out most of the benefit. VisaWadi books the appointment as part of the United Kingdom visa assistance package, and watches for earlier slots opening up.
Do you get the priority fee back if the visa is refused or delayed?
No, in almost every case. GOV.UK's refund page states plainly that if your application is refused, you will not get a refund of the priority fee, and that you will not get a refund if the decision runs late because the Home Office needed more information or evidence.
The exceptions are narrow. You will get a refund if you cancel before you have given your fingerprints and photo, and the Home Office may refund you if it could not decide in time for a reason outside its control, such as a technical problem. Refunds go back to the card you paid with and can take up to 28 days.
Nor is the visa fee itself refundable on refusal. The Standard Visitor application page says you will not get a refund of the application fee if you get a shorter visa or if your application is refused. On super priority, a refusal costs £1,135 and leaves you with nothing to show for it.
Why do priority UK visa applications from the UAE still get refused?
Priority applications are refused for the same reasons as standard ones, and paying the fee does not lower the bar. The core test on the GOV.UK Standard Visitor page is that you are a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of the visit, will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits, and can support yourself and pay for your return journey.
These are the avoidable causes we see most often in UAE files:
- Bank statements that do not explain the origin of the money. The supporting documents guide asks for statements which detail the origin of the funds held, so a large unexplained deposit the week before you apply is a red flag.
- No employer letter, or one that omits role, salary or length of employment.
- Thin evidence of ties to the UAE, so the caseworker cannot see why you would return.
- A trip budget that does not match the income shown, or a sponsor letter with no proof the sponsor can pay.
- Untranslated documents. Anything not in English or Welsh needs a full translation that the Home Office can verify.
- Answers on the form that contradict the documents, such as different travel dates or a different employer name.
Rushing is the common thread. A priority applicant who assembles the file in an evening is far more likely to leave one of these gaps than someone who prepared over a fortnight. If you have been refused before, read our guide to UK visa refusal reasons for UAE residents and how to reapply before you pay for priority a second time.
What does the whole application cost with and without priority?
The table separates VisaWadi's fee from the Home Office charges. Government fees are passed through at cost and never marked up, and the figures in pounds convert to dirhams at the rate applied when you pay online.
| Item | Standard route | Priority route | Super priority route |
|---|---|---|---|
| VisaWadi service package | From AED 699 | From AED 699 | From AED 699 |
| Home Office visa fee (6 month Standard Visitor) | £135 | £135 | £135 |
| Faster decision add-on | None | £500 | £1,000 |
| Total Home Office charges per person | £135 | £635 | £1,135 |
| Decision target | 3 weeks | 5 working days | Next working day |
VFS Global charges for optional extras at the centre, such as courier return or lounge access, are separate again and are shown at the time of booking. They are not part of the Home Office priority fee.
