UK Standard Visitor Visa Financial Requirements Explained
No minimum bank balance applies to a UK Standard Visitor visa. Home Office guidance says no set level of funds exists; your income or savings, minus commitments, must cover the trip cost you declare and look reasonable for your situation. Provide recent UAE bank statements with the origin of funds, an employer letter, and sponsor evidence if someone else pays. The fee is GBP 135 for up to 6 months.

There is no minimum bank balance for a UK Standard Visitor visa. The Home Office's own caseworker guidance says there is no set level of funds, so the test is whether your income or savings, minus your commitments, comfortably cover the trip you have described. Applicants from the UAE are refused on money not because the balance is too low, but because the statements do not match the application form or the funds appeared out of nowhere.

Is there a minimum bank balance for a UK visitor visa?
No. The Home Office's visit caseworker guidance states plainly that "there is no set level of funds required for an applicant to show this". Any figure you see quoted online as the official minimum has been invented.
What the rule actually says is in Appendix V of the Immigration Rules, at V 4.2(e). You must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs of the visit without working or accessing public funds, including the return journey, any dependants' costs and planned activities such as private medical treatment.
The caseworker then applies a proportionality test. Your income or savings, minus your financial commitments, must cover the likely costs in the UK and the spend must be reasonable in light of your financial situation. A two-week trip with a declared cost of GBP 3,000 looks fine on a Dubai salary of AED 15,000 a month, and looks odd on AED 4,000.
How much money should I actually show for my trip?
Show enough to cover the trip cost you declare on the form, plus a visible cushion, without it looking like every dirham you own. The online application asks how much you think your trip will cost, and that number becomes the benchmark the caseworker measures your statements against.
Work the figure out honestly: flights, accommodation, daily spending, and any tickets or treatment already planned. Then check that your statements show that amount is available and that your normal monthly pattern could sustain it.
The caseworker guidance is explicit that there should be a correlation between what you declared on the form (income, large deposits, support from family or friends) and the evidence you provide. If you claim a salary of AED 20,000 and your statement shows AED 9,000 landing each month, the mismatch is the problem, not the amount.
Which bank statements does UKVI want from UAE residents?
Personal current account statements from your UAE bank that show the origin of the funds held. That phrase comes straight from the GOV.UK supporting documents guide, which lists bank statements and building society books as the financial documents to provide, and adds proof of earnings such as an employer letter confirming start date, salary, role and company contact details.
GOV.UK does not fix a number of months. It does say documents issued more than a year before the application are less useful as evidence, so recent statements that show several salary credits are what you are aiming for. Digital images should be taken of original documents rather than copies wherever possible.
UAE bank statements downloaded from your banking app are in English and carry the bank's name, so they normally need no translation. If your employer letter or any other document is in Arabic only, GOV.UK requires a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office, with the translator's name, signature, date and contact details.
What happens if a large deposit appears just before I apply?
It triggers questions, and unexplained questions become refusals. The visit caseworker guidance says that where documents show sufficient funds but all or most of the money has not been held for long, the caseworker may make further checks to establish where it came from.
A gratuity payout, an asset sale, or a family transfer are all legitimate. The mistake is leaving the caseworker to guess. Declare the deposit on the form where it asks about your finances and attach the paper trail: the end-of-service settlement letter, the sale contract, or a short signed letter from the relative with their own statement.
Borrowing money to inflate a balance for a month is the worst option. Statements that show a round-figure credit shortly before the application and no history of that balance are exactly the pattern the guidance tells caseworkers to probe.
Can a family member or friend sponsor my UK visit?
Yes, and it is written into the rules. Appendix V, paragraph V 4.3 allows your travel, maintenance and accommodation to be provided by a third party who has a genuine professional or personal relationship with you, is not in breach of UK immigration law, and can and will support you for the whole of your stay.
The caseworker guidance confirms this covers family members, friends and other people you have a genuine relationship with. The GOV.UK overview repeats the point twice, noting you can have funding from someone else both for living costs and for the return journey.
The sponsor has to be evidenced properly. The supporting documents guide asks for evidence of what support is being provided, whether it extends to dependent family, and proof that the sponsor has enough funds to support themselves and their own dependants as well as you. In practice that is a signed letter, their recent bank statements, proof of their UK immigration status if they live there, and something showing the relationship.
Sponsorship supplements your file; it does not replace it. A UAE resident with a job and their own statements plus a UK relative covering accommodation is a strong application. An applicant with no income of their own relying entirely on a distant relative's undertaking is a weak one, and the guidance says undertakings cannot be treated as a guarantee that the visitor will comply.
Where and when do UAE residents submit their financial documents?
You upload documents online after paying, then attend a VFS Global UK visa application centre for biometrics. VFS Global runs the UK centres in the UAE in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman, and GOV.UK requires you to book an appointment at a visa application centre to prove your identity and have your fingerprints and photo taken.
Timing matters for the statements. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before travel and a decision usually arrives within 3 weeks, so pull your statements in the same week you submit rather than reusing a set generated a month earlier.
This is where most UAE applicants lose time. VisaWadi's United Kingdom visa assistance reviews your statements against the declared trip cost before anything is uploaded, prepares the file, books the VFS appointment and tracks the application to a decision, with packages from AED 699.
Why do UK visitor visa applications get refused on finances?
Almost every financial refusal comes down to one of five avoidable causes. None of them is "the balance was too small".
- Form and statements disagree. The caseworker guidance requires a correlation between declared income or support and the evidence. A salary on the form that never appears as a credit is the single most common trigger.
- Unexplained deposits. Money that has not been held long invites further checks on its origin, and a file with no explanation fails those checks by default.
- Trip cost out of proportion to income. The spend must be reasonable in light of your financial situation. A GBP 8,000 shopping trip on a modest salary reads as implausible even if the balance technically covers it.
- Weak ties to the UAE. The guidance lists an applicant with few or no family and economic ties to their country of residence and several family members in the UK as a reason to doubt they are a genuine visitor. Finances and ties are assessed together.
- Sponsor not evidenced. A letter saying "I will cover everything" with no statements behind it fails the test in V 4.3 that the sponsor can and will provide the support.
Nationality shapes how closely each point is read. A caseworker weighs previous compliant travel, including trips to the USA, Canada, Australia, Schengen countries or Switzerland, in your favour, so a Pakistani or Indian passport holder with a Schengen stamp and a stable Dubai job is in a different position from a first-time traveller.
