Italy Visa Appointment in Dubai: Booking Through VFS Global

You book an Italy visa appointment in Dubai on the VFS Global portal, then attend the Italy Visa Application Centre at The Gate, DIFC, with your full file. Only residents whose UAE residence visa was issued by Dubai or one of the Northern Emirates can apply there; Abu Dhabi residents go through BLS International instead. Apply at least 15 days before you travel, and no earlier than six months out.

What you need

This is the tourism list published by the Consulate General of Italy in Dubai (June 2026 checklist). Every item goes into the file you hand over at your VFS appointment.

• Schengen visa application form, filled in and signed
• One passport-size colour photo on a white background, no more than six months old
• Passport valid at least 90 days after you leave the Schengen area, with two blank pages, issued within the last 10 years, plus a copy
• Copy of your UAE residence visa, valid at least 90 days from your intended return date
• Copies of any previous UAE residence visas and any previous Schengen, US or UK visas
• No Objection Certificate from your employer or sponsor stating your role, start date, monthly salary, leave dates and purpose, with the signatory's passport and visa copies
• Employment contract or labour agreement
• Copy of a valid UAE trade or professional licence
• Last three months of pay slips, bank statements and credit card statements, with statements on bank letterhead or bearing the original bank stamp
• Medical insurance for the whole stay with at least EUR 30,000 cover, unlimited hospitalisation cover, emergency repatriation and repatriation of remains, with a table of benefits
• Confirmed hotel booking, or a letter of invitation if you are staying privately
• Confirmed flight reservation

Who can book an Italy visa appointment in Dubai?

Only applicants holding a UAE residence visa issued by Dubai or a Northern Emirate can apply at the Dubai centre. The consulate's common guidelines put it plainly: "Only applicants holding an UAE Residence Visa issued by any 'Northern Emirates' authority may apply in Dubai."

The VFS Global Italy page for Dubai lists those emirates as Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, alongside Dubai itself. If your residence visa was issued in Abu Dhabi, the Embassy of Italy in Abu Dhabi handles your file through BLS International at Nation Towers Mall, and tourist applicants there book through the BLS portal.

Nationality changes nothing about where you apply, but it changes the fee for a handful of passports and it changes how closely your ties to the UAE are examined. How do I book the appointment on the VFS Global portal?

Create an account on the VFS Global booking page for Italy in Dubai, choose the centre, the visa category and the number of applicants, then pick a slot. The VFS Italy Dubai site states that each user ID, including the email and mobile number attached to it, can be used to book only one appointment, so use your own details rather than a friend's login.

Tourist appointments are booked through the same portal that the consulate links from its visa service notice of 19 March 2026. That notice also confirms visa services resumed at The Gate, DIFC, from 23 March 2026, after a short suspension caused by regional instability, and that the service "remains subject to change". Check the portal and the consulate site again in the week before your slot.

Families travelling together must apply together, per the tourism checklist. Book one appointment covering every traveller, including children, rather than separate slots.

When should I apply for an Italy visa from Dubai?

Apply between six months and 15 days before your departure date. The European Commission's Schengen visa guidance sets the window: "at least 15 days before your intended journey and no earlier than 6 months beforehand".

The Dubai consulate repeats the floor on its tourism checklist: "The application must be submitted at least 15 days before the intended travel date." Its common guidelines go further and call 15 days a minimum, warning that "Visa Regulations and technical issues may lead to inadmissibility or delays."

In practice, treat a slot four to eight weeks before travel as the target. That leaves room for the decision period to stretch and for the consulate to request more documents.

Where is the Italy Visa Application Centre in Dubai?

The centre is at The Gate, DIFC. The VFS Global media release announcing the centre gives the full address as Dubai International Financial Centre, The Gate Avenue, Zone C, Level 1, Units 166 and 168, and the consulate's March 2026 notice confirms the centre "will resume operations at its usual location at The Gate DIFC".

What happens at the VFS appointment?

Your documents are checked against the checklist, your fingerprints and photo are taken, and you pay the visa fee and the VFS service charge. The European Commission states that "your fingerprints will be collected when you submit your application", with exemptions only for specific categories.

The VFS Italy Dubai site states that applicants are charged a service charge per application in addition to the visa fee, paid in cash or by card. Your passport stays with the consulate until a decision is made, as the tourism checklist notes: "The passport will not be returned until the final decision on the visa is adopted."

If the consulate asks for extra documents later, drop them physically at the VFS centre. The common guidelines say no appointment is needed for that and that "Documents sent by email to the Visa Office will not be evaluated."

How long does the Italy visa take after the appointment?

Expect 15 days, and plan for up to 45. The European Commission's guidance gives 15 days as the standard processing time and says it may be extended "to up to 45 days if a more detailed examination of the application and/or additional documents are required".

The clock starts when the application is lodged at VFS, not when you book the slot. This is why the consulate insists on a 15-day buffer and why a slot booked three weeks before departure leaves you with no margin at all.

How much does the Italy visa cost in Dubai?

The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, per the European Commission, with a reduced EUR 35 fee for nationals of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus. The Dubai consulate's own visa fee page still shows the older EUR 80 rate as AED 330, so pay whatever the counter quotes in dirhams and keep the receipt.

On top of the visa fee comes the VFS service charge listed on the VFS Italy Dubai site. VFS offers optional extras such as a premium lounge and passport delivery, listed in its centre announcement. None of them affects the decision, and the Abu Dhabi embassy says of the equivalent BLS extras that "their purchase is in no way mandatory".

Why do Italy visa applications from Dubai get refused?

Most avoidable refusals come from the file, not the applicant. The tourism checklist warns that "an application without a complete set of documents may result in the refusal of my visa application", and the consulate adds that a complete file still does not guarantee a visa.

• Applying at the wrong centre. An Abu Dhabi-issued residence visa cannot be lodged in Dubai, and the common guidelines make that a hard rule.
• Passport problems. Less than 90 days' validity after departure, fewer than two blank pages, issued more than 10 years ago, or damaged. The checklist says damaged passports are not accepted at all.
• Foreign bank statements. The checklist states that "foreign bank accounts will not be considered" and that online statements need the original bank stamp.
• Thin insurance. Cover below EUR 30,000, capped hospitalisation or no repatriation clause fails the consulate's insurance requirement. Our post on Schengen visa insurance minimums explains what the table of benefits must show.
• Booking too late. Lodging inside the 15-day floor invites inadmissibility, per the common guidelines.
• Weak NOC. A letter missing the salary, leave dates or the signatory's contact details does not meet the checklist, and a vague purpose of travel undermines everything else. A clear cover letter helps the officer follow your plan.

What does an Italy visa from Dubai cost in total?
