France Visa Appointment at VFS Global Dubai: How to Book

You book a France visa appointment in Dubai on the VFS Global website, after you have completed the application on the official France-Visas portal, and you pay the VFS service charge by card at the moment you book. Dubai residents, and residents of Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, must use the Dubai centre; only Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents use Abu Dhabi. Each traveller needs their own appointment, and you should book well ahead because slots are in high demand.

Do I complete France-Visas before booking the VFS appointment?

Yes, the France-Visas application comes first and the VFS appointment comes second. France-Visas is the official website for submitting and tracking your visa application, and the French mission in the UAE tells applicants to create an account and complete the form online before submitting at a visa centre.

Start with the Visa Wizard on the portal. It confirms whether your nationality needs a visa, which type applies, and which supporting documents to enclose (France Diplomatie).

Once the online form is done, print it. You still hand over a paper application at the VFS counter, together with the receipt and all supporting documents.

Which VFS centre do I book, Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Your emirate of residence decides this, not your preference. VFS Global states that the Abu Dhabi centre only accepts applications from persons holding residency issued by Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Residents of Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah must submit at the Dubai centre. If you turn up at the wrong centre your file can be turned away, and the service charge is not refunded.

This catches Sharjah residents who work in Dubai and assume either centre will do. Check the emirate printed on your residence visa before you pick a location.

How do I book the appointment on the VFS Global website?

Booking is done online and confirmed instantly on payment. VFS Global explains that a secure payment must be made via a credit card on the website for an immediate appointment confirmation, and you then receive a visa appointment letter.

Print that letter and carry it on the day. Give a working email address when you register, because the confirmation letter is sent there and the centre asks to see it at the door.

If your card payment fails, the system makes you wait. A new appointment can only be scheduled one hour after an unsuccessful payment (VFS Global).

Booking trouble is common at peak season. VFS asks applicants with problems to email info.FranceUAE@vfshelpline.com with their name, passport number and contact number, or to call +971 4 2055999 (VFS Global).

Does every family member need a separate appointment?

Yes, one appointment per applicant, with no exceptions for children. VFS Global is explicit: if a family or group of five is applying for visas, then five appointments must be made.

Book the slots back to back so the family attends together. Each person also submits a separate France-Visas application, so complete every form before you try to reserve slots.

The one exception on appointments applies to spouses of French nationals with a marriage transcription certificate and livret de famille. VFS states they pay no service charge and no visa fee, and do not need an appointment (VFS Global).

How early should I book my France visa appointment from Dubai?

Book as soon as your travel dates are fixed, and never leave it to the last month. Under EU rules you can apply no earlier than 6 months before the trip and no later than 15 days before it.

The 15 day minimum is a legal cut-off, not a target. The French foreign ministry warns that waiting times for appointments and for processing applications vary depending on your nationality and the time of year.

VFS Global's own guidance is to check average appointment wait times so you can submit three months to two weeks before departure (VFS Global). For summer travel from the UAE, aim to lodge the file in the spring.

Nationality matters here. A Pakistani, Indian or Filipino passport holder resident in Dubai should expect more scrutiny than a GCC citizen, so extra buffer time pays off if the consulate asks for more documents.

What happens at the VFS Dubai appointment?

The centre checks your file, takes your biometrics, collects the fees and keeps your passport for the consulate. Fingerprints are collected at submission for every Schengen application (European Commission).

Children under 12 are not fingerprinted. France records biometric data, meaning the digitised photo and fingerprints, in a file called Visabio, and children under 12 years old are not concerned.

If you gave fingerprints for an earlier Schengen visa, they may be copied. The Visa Code allows fingerprints entered in the VIS less than 59 months before a new application to be reused (EU Visa Code), though the centre can still take them again.

Can I reschedule or cancel a VFS France appointment?

You can reschedule twice, and the deadline is two working days before your slot. VFS Global states that a further change is treated as a fresh appointment and a new service charge applies.

Cancelling never refunds the service charge. Cancellations are also only accepted up to two working days before the appointment, and a new booking means paying the charge again (VFS Global).

The same non-refund rule applies if you miss the slot, arrive late and cannot be seen, decide not to proceed, or bring an incomplete file that the centre cannot accept (VFS Global). An incomplete file is the most avoidable of these, which is where a professional document check earns its fee.

How long does the France visa take after the Dubai appointment?

Plan for 15 days, and know that it can stretch to 45. The European Commission states that the normal processing time is 15 days, which may be extended to 45 days if a more detailed examination or additional documents are required.

Track the file through the VFS tracking tool with the reference from your receipt. When the passport is back at the centre you are notified to collect it.

Silence has a legal meaning in France. Under French rules, an implicit refusal occurs if no response arrives within 2 months, so chase the file well before that point.

Why do France visa applications from the UAE get refused?

Refusals from Dubai come from avoidable file errors far more often than from the applicant's profile. The causes below are the ones our team sees repeatedly.

• Passport that fails the three tests. It must be issued within 10 years, valid 3 months beyond the visa end date and have 2 blank pages (Service Public). Renew before you book if any test fails.
• Insurance that falls short. Cover below EUR 30,000, or a policy that excludes repatriation, does not meet the Visa Code minimum. A Schengen-compliant policy from Travl, AXA-issued and from AED 30, avoids this.
