What are the UK visa photo requirements?

The UK photo must have been taken in the last month, according to gov.uk guidance on photos for passports and visas. That is a much tighter window than applicants often expect, and reusing a photo from a few months ago is a common rejection trigger.

The UK guidance states you should not wear glasses in your photo unless you have to. If you do wear them, they cannot be sunglasses or tinted glasses, and your eyes must not be covered by frames, glare, reflection or shadow. Head coverings are not permitted unless worn for religious or medical reasons, and even then the full face from chin to forehead must remain unobstructed.

The photo must be in colour with a neutral expression, both eyes open and clearly visible. What are the US visa photo requirements?

The US B1/B2 visa requires a square photo, 51x51mm (2x2 inches), as specified by the US Department of State photo requirements page. That square format is different from both the Schengen rectangular print and the taller Canada format, so order a separate set of prints for a US application rather than reusing another destination's photos.

The State Department prohibits glasses in visa photos. The rules also exclude uniforms resembling military dress and any item covering the face, with an exception for religious head coverings provided they do not obscure the face itself.

What are the Canada visa photo requirements?

Canada uses a larger format than the other three destinations: 50mm wide and 70mm tall, with the face occupying 31mm to 36mm of the height. The background must be plain white or light-coloured, and the photo must have been taken within the last six months, as outlined in Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada photo specifications.

Canada's glasses rule is specific. Sunglasses and tinted glasses are not accepted, and that exclusion explicitly covers tinted prescription lenses even when your eyes are clearly visible.
