Saudi Visa Rules by Profession: What Changed for GCC Residents

The Short Answer

Your profession no longer decides your Saudi tourist eVisa eligibility as a GCC resident. Visit Saudi's current requirements ask only for a GCC residency visa valid at least three months beyond your entry date and a passport valid at least six months beyond it. First-degree relatives and domestic workers travelling with the sponsor are covered too. The visa is multiple entry and valid one year.

Saudi Visa Rules by Profession: What Changed for GCC Residents

Your job title no longer decides whether you get a Saudi tourist eVisa as a GCC resident. The requirements published on Visit Saudi today ask for two things: a GCC residency visa valid at least three months beyond your entry date, and a passport valid at least six months beyond it. No profession list sits alongside those two rules on the page.

Does your profession still matter for the Saudi eVisa?

Not on the current requirements. The GCC-resident section of Visit Saudi's visa regulations page lists the residency visa rule, the passport rule, a note for travellers under 18 and a line on Umrah. There is no occupation list, no "eligible professions" dropdown and no job title check on that page.

That matters for UAE residents because the scheme was built around a published list. The Ministry of Tourism regulation still ties GCC residence permit eligibility to "the professions published on www.visitsaudi.com", so whatever the live page shows is the list that counts. Today the only questions are whether your residence permit and passport meet the two validity rules.

If your Emirates ID renewal is pending, sort that first. A permit with under three months left beyond your travel date fails the residency rule on Visit Saudi no matter what you do for a living, and that is the first thing VisaWadi checks before filing.

What does the Saudi regulation actually say about professions?

The Ministry of Tourism's Tourist Visa Regulations still mention professions, so it is worth reading the exact wording. Article 6 grants eligibility to anyone who "has obtained a Residence Visa, valid for a period of no less than three months, in the GCC countries, for the professions published on www.visitsaudi.com".

The regulation delegates the profession question to Visit Saudi, and Visit Saudi currently publishes no profession restriction for GCC residents. In practice that means the eligibility rule you are held to is the one on the live page: permit validity and passport validity.

The same article also fixes the six month passport rule in law. Article 5 requires applicants to "hold a passport that is valid for no less than 6 months", to register biometrics during the application or on arrival, and to obtain medical insurance approved in the Kingdom, which is why the insurance is bundled into VisaWadi's Saudi Arabia visa assistance at AED 700 all inclusive.

Are family members and domestic workers covered too?

Yes, and this part of the rule is often missed. Article 6 of the regulation says GCC residence permit eligibility "shall include the Residence Visa holder's first-degree relatives coming with them, and workers in domestic professions coming with their sponsors".

So a sponsored spouse, a child on a parent's visa, or a housemaid travelling with the family can apply on the same basis as the sponsor, as long as each person's own residence permit and passport meet the validity rules on Visit Saudi. Children under 18 need a parent to apply for an eVisa first, per the same page.

VisaWadi files each family member as a separate application through VisaWadi's Saudi Arabia visa service, at AED 700 per person all inclusive. There is no embassy visit, no appointment and no biometrics in the UAE, and the fee is refunded in full if a visa is refused.

What can you do on the visa, and what is still off limits?

Tourism, family visits, events and Umrah are all fine. Visit Saudi states that any type of visa allows travellers to perform Umrah, and the Saudi Press Agency reported the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirming that holders of all visa types, including electronic tourist visas, may perform Umrah while in the Kingdom.

Hajj and work are not. Article 10 of the Tourist Visa Regulations requires visa holders to avoid "performing Hajj except under a Hajj Visa", to avoid Umrah during the Hajj season set by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, and to avoid "engaging in any paid or unpaid work".

Keep the stay limits in mind as well. The multiple entry eVisa is valid for one year and, per Visit Saudi, allows "a stay of no more than (90) consecutive days", while the regulation caps total stay at three months during the visa's validity period. Frequently Asked Questions

No. The current GCC-resident requirements on Visit Saudi list only a residency visa valid at least three months beyond your entry date and a passport valid at least six months beyond it. No occupation list appears on the page, so drivers, technicians, sales staff and office workers all apply on the same terms.
Yes. Article 6 of the Ministry of Tourism regulation extends GCC residence permit eligibility to workers in domestic professions coming with their sponsors, and to the permit holder's first-degree relatives travelling with them. Each person still needs their own residence permit and passport to meet the validity rules.
The multiple entry eVisa is valid for one year from issue and, according to Visit Saudi, allows a stay of no more than 90 consecutive days. The Ministry of Tourism regulation adds that total stay must not exceed three months during the visa's validity period, so plan repeat trips with that cap in mind.
Umrah yes, work no. Visit Saudi states that any type of visa allows travellers to perform Umrah, booked through the Nusuk platform. Article 10 of the Tourist Visa Regulations bars visa holders from Hajj without a Hajj visa, from Umrah during the Hajj season, and from any paid or unpaid work.
