Germany Visa from UAE: Step-by-Step Application Guide

Step 1: Confirm You're Applying at the Right Place

Germany's visa applications from the UAE are processed through VFS Global. There are VFS centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. You cannot walk in without an appointment, so book your slot on the VFS Global website before you do anything else.

Apply at least 15 days before your intended travel date. Applications can be submitted up to six months in advance, so there's no reason to leave it to the last minute.

Step 2: Choose the Right Visa Type

Most UAE residents apply for one of the following:

• Short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): For tourism, business, or family visits up to 90 days within a 180-day period
• Airport transit visa (Type A): If you're transiting through a German airport without entering the Schengen area
• National visa (Type D): For long-term stays such as work or study — applied through the German Embassy directly

Step 3: Gather Your Documents

Embassies and VFS require a flight itinerary as part of your application. Step 6: Attend Your VFS Appointment

Arrive at your VFS appointment with your complete document file, printed and organised. VFS staff will check your documents, collect your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph if it's your first Schengen application or if more than 59 months have passed), and submit your file to the German consulate.

Step 7: Wait for a Decision
